PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain flame retardant processing of polyester fiber that shows excellent resistance to washing, even when a non-halogen flame retardant is employed, by treating polyester fiber with a specific phosphorus compound and fixing the phosphorus compound to the fiber with heat. SOLUTION: Polyester fiber is treated with a phosphorus compound represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl; and (n), (m) are each 0-4) and formula II [R3 and R4 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl; (r) and (q) are each 0-4; and R5 is H, an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal] as a flame retardant, the treated polyester fiber is heat-treated at 110-220 deg.C whereby the flame retardant is fixed to the fiber. In another embodiment, polyester fiber is soaked in the treatment solution containing the flame retardant and the solution is heated at 100-150 deg.C, or in another case, a carrier is added to the treatment solution, then polyester is soaked in the carrier-including solution, then the solution is heated up to 80-120 deg.C to fix the flame retardant to the polyester fiber. |
