SEGMENT GRINDING WHEEL FOR GROOVE GRINDING AND MANUFACTURE OF SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grind both sidewalls of grooves simultaneously in an appreciably precise and efficient manner so that the sidewall clearance of ground grooves is constant throughout their inlet, middle and bottom portions. SOLUTION: This grinding wheel 1 for groove grinding carries a plurality of grinding segments 5 fixed to an circumferential surface 4 of a flange 3 on a disklike grinding core 2. The flange 3 has side abrasive layers 6 and 7 spreading over both surfaces over a radial grinding-wheel length conforming to the depth of grooves ground. Both side faces 9 and 10 of each grinding segment 5 project 0 to 3μm from respective external surfaces 11 and 12 of the side abrasive layers 6 and 7, or the distance between the external surfaces 11 and 12 of the side abrasive layers 6 and 7 increases gradually in the radially outer- to-inner direction of the segment grinding wheel 1.
