摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a selection between a direct drive and an HST drive according to the cruising conditions of a ship and also prevent shock from occurring when shifting between both drive states. SOLUTION: A marine propeller drive device comprises a speed reducing reverser having a speed reducing gear mechanism and hydrostatic transmission(HST) and switchable between a direct drive mode for transmitting power to a propeller shaft only through the speed reducing gear mechanism and an HST drive mode for transmitting power through the hydrostatic transmission. A swash plate 21a of a hydraulic motor 21 of the hydrostatic transmission is formed variable, and when switching between the HST drive mode and direct drive mode, the swash plate angle of a motor wash plate 21a is adjusted so as to control the rotation of a motor shaft 31 so that a propeller speed corresponding to a motor shaft speed is synchronized with the propeller speed in direct drive mode corresponding to an engine speed.
