PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent light emitted from a sheet sensor from being reflected on a ribbon guide when a print sheet is absent and received by the sheet sensor to cause erroneous recognition of sheet detection. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a print head 1, a platen 2 disposed oppositely to the print head, a ribbon guide 3 fixed to the print head, and a reflective sheet sensor 4 disposed oppositely to a print sheet P passing between the platen 2 and the ribbon guide 3 and emitting light for detecting the print sheet P. The ribbon guide 3 is provided with parts 3b, 3d inclining against the surface of the print sheet P and reflecting light emitted from the sheet sensor 4 toward a position deviated therefrom when the print sheet P does not exist between the sheet sensor 4 and the ribbon guide 3.
