PURPOSE: An apparatus for inputting a shorthand letter for caption broadcasting and the input method is provided to enhance a degree of exactness of caption input by reducing a delay time as a difference between a point of time of sound generation and a point of time of caption display. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for inputting shorthand letter for caption broadcasting and the input method includes following units. Key input units(2,4) are for inputting a shorthand letter for caption broadcasting according to separated times by plural workers. Display units(6,8) are for displaying the letter outputted from the key input units(2,4). Letter correcting display units(10,12) are for displaying letter outputted from the key input units(2,4) in order to correct letter by a correcting worker. Letter correcting key input units(14,16) are for inputting the letter to be corrected by the correcting worker.
