PURPOSE: A rotary compressor is provided to suppress noise generated by a pressure fluctuation in an interior of a compression chamber and, at the same time, to prevent the occurrence of a loss induced by re-expansion of a refrigerant remaining in a small space and a loss induced by return of the refrigerant to a suction chamber. CONSTITUTION: A rotary compressor is provided with a cylinder(5) which defines a cylinder chamber(11) and a piston(7) disposed in the cylinder chamber(11). The piston(7) includes a roller(7a) which performs a revolving motion within the cylinder chamber(11) and a vane(7b) which partitions the interior of the cylinder chamber(11) into a suction chamber(11a) and a compression chamber(11b). A small space(16) is provided so as to communicate with the compression chamber(11b) in only a predetermined section without communicating with the suction chamber(11a).
