PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase efficiency in volume for a stored substance relative to the area of a site by forming a tank main body, in which a liquid is stored, so that its horizontal cross-section has an oval shape using parallel walls and curved walls and by providing a tank roof for covering the main body. SOLUTION: On the internal annular wall of a pit with an oval horizontal cross-section formed by excavating ground, a concrete external layer 17 for a tank main body, which consists of opposite parallel walls 15 formed of straight walls arranged on both sides and curved walls 16 with semi-circular horizontal cross-sections connecting both ends of the parallel walls 15, is formed. Because the tank main body is formed in the shape of the oval in horizontal cross-section, the area of a site may be small, as long as a capacity for storing a substrate to be stored is the same, in comparison with that needed in the case of arrangement of two underground type storage tanks which are circular in a horizontal plane. Therefore, if the area of the site is the same, the storing capacity can be increased and, as a result, the capacity relative to the area of the site, that is, volume efficiency can be improved.
