PURPOSE: A high speed data access device for an optical disc, and a method therefor are provided so that an access speed can be increased and stabilized in reproduction of the optical disc. CONSTITUTION: A high speed data access device for an optical disc consists of a read unit, a transfer unit, a data processing unit and a control unit. Here, a reproduction speed of an object position of an optical pickup is calculated according to a current reproduction speed of the optical disc. A data read clock is varied correspondingly to the calculated reproduction speed. Thereafter, a recorded data is read and reproduced in the position according to the varied data read clock. That is, the data read clock is varied before the optical pickup moves to the object position, and thus more rapidly stably phase-synchronized with the reproduction clock. Accordingly, as soon as the optical pickup moves to the object position, the recorded signal on the optical disc is detected and restored. As a result, the access speed can be increased and stabilized. In addition, an access time can be decreased.
