PURPOSE: A data recording method of a rewritable recorder is provided to edit in part the data recorded to the recorder by pre-formatting the recorder as a period with a constant size and recording the inputted data with any size by the period. CONSTITUTION: A data recording method of a rewritable recorder includes following processes. When an optical disk capable of rerecording is inserted to the recording/reproducing device, a microprocessor pre-formats a program(data) region on the optical disk as a period with a predetermined constant size. The microprocessor records and stores information on the start and finish positions of the each pre-formatted data recording period to the read-in region of the optical disk as an initial TOC information. In a recording mode, an audio signal is changed into a digital data in the A/D converter. A microprocessor controls an optical driver in order to be output a recording signal by an optimum optical driving current. Although the present input data is recorded to the position c1 of the pre-formatted period b1, when there is a remnant region in the b1, the microprocessor controls a digital recording signal processing unit so that non-sound data may output. Data is recorded from the position c1 to the last position of the period b1.
