OPTICAL FIBER FERRULE AND METHOD FOR FIXING FERRULE ONTO OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To firmly fix a ferrule even if a large pulling force is present by manufacturing an optical fiber ferrule from a plastic material, and welding it onto the clad of an optical fiber. SOLUTION: A plastic material-made ferrule 4 is arranged on an optical fiber 1 formed of a plastic material. The optical fiber 1 has a light guide core and a double sheath clad 2 consisting of an outside clad and an inside clad. The inside clad has an outer shape embossed or cut for forming a dent 3 in a welding area 5. The outside clad of the optical fiber 1 is stripped first in one area. The ferrule 4 is fixed onto the optical fiber 1 by ultrasonic welding. The longer or shorter welding area 5 is prepared depending on the strength required for the connection part of the ferrule 4 and the optical fiber 1. The welding is performed to the inside surface of the ferrule 4 and the outside surface of the inside clad of the optical fiber 1.
