PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of images allowed to be picked up per unit time in an image pickup device for supplying a trigger signal from the external and picking up a still image. SOLUTION: When a TRG signal indicating the start of image pickup is outputted from an external synchronizing signal generation device 30, a TRG shutter block 14 generates a VDI signal and an HDI signal and supplies these signals to a CCD driving part 16 to allow a CCD 12 to start image pickup and transfer a picked-up image signal to a register in the CCD 12. The block 14 generates a VR signal at prescribed timing and supplies the VR signal to a synchronizing signal generation block 15. The block 15 generates a VDO signal in accordance with the VR signal and supplies the VDO signal to a signal processing part 17. After the lapse of a prescribed period from the input of the VDO signal, the processing part 17 acquires the image signal from the CCD 12, applies prescribed image processing to the acquired image signal and outputs the processed signal to a monitor 20.
