PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make keyboard device automatically operable for switching of the function of one part of keys on a keyboard, the setting of the validity/ invalidity of a switching key, and the prevention of any erroneous input by detecting the state of the hands of a user on the keyboard without depressing any special key. SOLUTION: This keyboard device is provided with a sensor 1 which detects whether or not the hands of a user are present at a home position, a function switching key for selecting one of two functions, that is, a digit inputting function and a cursor moving function arranged at a ten key part 2 according to the depression of a key, a sensor validity/invalidity switch 3 for switching the validity/invalidity of the detected result of the sensor 1, and a microcomputer 6 for operating the selection of the function according to the detected result of the sensor 1 when the sensor validity/invalidity switch 3 indicates validity, and for operating the selection of the function according of the function switching key when the sensor validity/invalidity switch 3 indicates invalidity.
