PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: This projection type display device is provided with an interlock switch 310 actuating in a direction difference from the opening/closing direction of a lamp exchanging cover 27 and changing over a state where the entire device can be energized to/from a state where it can not be energized. Therefore, the device is hardly influenced by the floating of the cover 27, so that the interlock switch need not be arranged near the fixed part 27A between the cover 27 and a projection type display device main body. Namely, the degree of freedom in terms of the arrangement of parts constituting the projection type display device is increased, so that the arranging efficiency of the parts in the projection type display device is improved. Therefore, wasteful space as before does not need and the miniturization of the projection type display device is promoted.
