PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an air conditioner, which contrives the reduction of a stand-by power consumption under a condition that a compressor and a ventilating machine are stopped, and the control method of the control device. SOLUTION: In a control device for an air conditioner comprising a switching power supply 2, constituted of a rectifying circuit unit 2a, a smoothing circuit unit 2b and a switching power supply circuit 2c, and a control unit 3 for controlling a main body, an infrared ray detecting unit 4 having a sensor 4a for detecting infrared rays is provide at the side of a main body indoor unit and a power supply control unit 2d for changing an input voltage is provided between the rectifying circuit unit 2a and an AC power supply 1 while the control terminal 2d1 of the power supply control unit 2d and the output terminal 4b of the infrared ray detecting unit 4 are connected to a control unit 3. When a compressor and a ventilating machine in the air conditioner main body are under a stand-by condition and the output of the infrared ray detecting unit 4 is not detected within a predetermined period of time, the control unit 3 controls the power supply control unit 2d so as to reduce the DC input voltage Vd of the switching power supply circuit 2c by a predetermined value. |
