PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mercury supply method capable of supplying a fixed amount of mercury into a chamber part simply and constantly by simultaneously measuring the amount of and discharging the mercury. SOLUTION: A small-diameter pipe 30 forming a mercury supply passage is inserted in a glass tube w1 extending from the chamber part of an arc tube from its upper part so that its tip part almost reaches the inside of the chamber part, the upper stream side of a sealed mercury supply passage (mercury barrel 20) is connected with piping to a gas pressure controller 50, the inside of the small-diameter pipe 30 is kept in a condition filled with mercury by keeping a designated pressure in the mercury supply passage (mercury barrel 20), a designated pressure is applied to the mercury in the small-diameter pipe 30 for a designated time by the gas pressure controller 50, a designated amount of mercury is dropped and supplied to the chamber part by discharging it from the tip part of the small-diameter pipe 30. Since measuring and discharging of mercury is simultaneously carried out with the small-diameter pipe 30 inserted in the glass tube w1 from the upper part, workability gets excellent, a fixed amount of mercury can be constantly supplied to the chamber part even in a short time, and it is very efficient in mass-producing the arc tubes.
