PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer interface system capable of executing efficient negotiation. SOLUTION: When a control code for the operation mode switching of a printer interface is inputted, a CPU 11 outputs an instruction to an I/O memory controller part 13 and sets a switching mode shown by the control code to a mode register 18. The register 18 outputs a start signal (c) notifying a negotiation part 19 of the start of mode switching according to the switching mode set by the part 13. The part 19 receives and outputs a two-way control signal (d) for mode switching from and to a printer controller part 15 in order to perform designated mode switching according to the signal (c) and performs negotiation by a prescribed operation conforming to IEEE 1284 standard.
