PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball step gage constituted in such a way that size changes in the intervals of balls hardly occur and changes in the intervals of balls are minute even if elastic deformation occurs as a beam in the frame body of the ball step gage by the static load of an elastic supporting beam. SOLUTION: A gage frame body 1 is formed in an H-shape, and a plurality of holes 6 are provided along the axis L, which is both the center axis of the horizontal frame 4 of the gage frame body 1 and the center axis of the cross-sectional secondary moment of the H-shaped gage frame body 1. Balls 5 are each pressed in the holes 6 and fixed. Four grooves 7 are formed in the circumference of the ball 5 in the hole 6. It is possible to use this ball step gage 10 as before even as it is. By using a light-wave interference stepper to be restrained by five points by two adjacent balls and prevented from rolling by the end face 12 of the frame body 1 or the horizontal frame 4, it is possible to use the ball step gage 10 as a more accurate ball step gage.
