The invention relates to an exercise device comprising a handle portion (1), in which a first handle (4a) and a second handle (4b) are arranged to turn in relation to a pivot element (6). The exercise device also comprises a compression space (5), in which a separate resistance element (2) is placeable to receive the pressing force achieved by the handles. In accordance with the inventive idea, the outer surface of the resistance element (2) is provided with at least one open space, preferably a groove or grooves (10), in which strengthening pieces (9) are placeable for adjusting the compressive resistance of the resistance element.
