A mattress assembly (10) for supporting a patient (98) includes a body suppo rt portion (56) having a head end (71), a foot end (75), and a knee support portion (73). The body support portion (56) has a first air zone (70) extending from the head end (71) to the knee support portion (73) and a seco nd air zone (72) extending from the knee support portion (73) to the foot end (75). The mattress assembly (10) also includes a control module (54) configured to supply air to the first and second air zones (70, 72) to maintain the first air zone (70) at a substantially constant first pressure and to maintain the second air zone (72) at a substantially constant second pressure. The second pressure is less than the first pressure to provide reduced pressure on a patient's calves and feet located on the second air zo ne (72).
