A food supplement comprises creatine suspended in an edible supporting matrix. The supporting matrix is preferably a concentrated Aloe Vera gel with an acidic pH, it may also comprise other spreadable solids such as honey, syrup, molasses or treacle. Alternatively the supporting matrix could be a gum, polysaccharide or gelatinous substance. The supplement may contain electrolytes, vitamins, lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids, trace elements, colourings, flavours, artificial sweeteners, antioxidants, stabilizers, preservatives and buffers. The creatine may be in the form of creatine monohydrate or creatine phosphate, and is preferably stable at room temperature for at least 7 days. Methods of preparing and of storing creatine in the supplement form are disclosed, which inhibit conversion to creatinine at room temperature and at acidic pH. |
