PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire for gas shielded arc welding, by which a weld metal can be formed, which is suitable for manufacturing a joint by the gas shielded arc welding of a superhigh tensile steel sheet having the tensile strength of 950 MPa or over and which has high strength and high toughness. SOLUTION: A wire for gas shielded arc welding contains, by weight, 0.020-0.060% C, 0.20-0.50% Si, 1.50-2.50% Mn, 2.90-3.50% Ni, 0.7-1.5% Cr, 0.30-1.00% Mo, 0.010-0.050% Ti and 0.020-0.080% Al. P, S, N, O, V and Nb as inevitable impurities are reduced to <=0.007% P,<=0.007% S, <=0.007% N, <=0.007% O, <=0.005% V and <=0.003% Nb, the remainder should be Fe and the inevitable impurities.
