PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tapered roller bearing capable of securing a long endurance life even under the intrusion of foreign matters and to provide a gear shaft supporting device for a vehicle. SOLUTION: As the stock for the tapered roller 16, steel contg. 0.8 to 1.5% C, 0.4 to 1.2% Si, 0.8 to 1.5% Mn and 0.5 to 1.8% Cr is used, in inner and outer rings 13 and 15, as the stock at least for the inner ring 13, case hardening steel contg. <=0.4% C is used, on the surface layer parts of these inner and outer rings 13 and 15 and the tapered roller 16, respectively, carbo-nitriding layers are formed, by which the peeling of the surfaces even under the using conditions in which foreign matters are intruded or heat generation in the bearing part is large can be suppressed, and moreover, the fatigue strength of the collar of the inner ring 13 is increased to prolong the endurance life of the tapered roller bearing.
