PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for obtaining carboxylic acid and alcohol from carboxylic ester through simple steps in no use of an azeotropic agent. SOLUTION: The side flow of carboxylic ester-containing liquid that is collected from the first distillation column 3 in which at least a part of these constituents is operated under the total reflux is fed to the hydrolysis reactor 2 filled with an acid catalyst to obtain the reaction product solution that substantially comprises carboxylic acid, alcohol, water and carboxylic ester. This reaction product solution is fed to the first distillation column 3 and the bottom fraction substantially comprising carboxylic acid, alcohol and water is collected from the column bottom of the distillation column 3. The bottom fraction is separated in the second distillation column 5 into the overhead fraction mainly containing alcohol and the column bottom fraction mainly containing carboxylic acid and water. The column bottom fraction is separated in the third distillation column 7 into the top fraction containing carboxylic acid and water and the bottom fraction containing carboxylic acid. Finally, the resultant top fraction is recycled to the column top of the first distillation column and simultaneously water 4 is fed to the same column top.
