PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject enhancer having excellent neurotrophin action enhancing activity and useful as a medicine for neurodegeneration diseases by including a specified phenanthridinone derivative. SOLUTION: This enhancer is obtained by including 6(5H)-phenanthridinone derivative of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or a halogen; R3 is amino) [e.g. 1-amino-3,8-dichloro-6(5H)-phenanthridinone]. The compound of formula I is obtained by e.g. reacting a compound of formula II with nitric acid in acetic acid to obtain a compound of formula III and reducing the resultant in an inactive solvent in the presence of formic acid using palladium carbon. As medicines for neurodegeneration diseases, prophylactic and therapeutic agents for Alzheimer type demantia, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's chorea and peripheral sensory neuropathy and inhibitors for neuron death and therapeutic agents for sequelae after cerebral ischemia can be listed.
