DEVICE FOR DETECTING THE POSITION OF A MOVEABLE MEMBER IN A LOCKING SYSTEM WHICH IS USED IN MOTOR VEHICLES

An important function of the device for detecting the position of a moveable member in a locking system used in motor vehicles is to monitor the locking bolt (11) in an electronic steering lock (10) in one such motor vehicle. A permanent magnet (30) is arranged on the locking bolt (11) and at least two Hall effect sensors (31,32) are disposed in the effect field thereof. One sensor (32) monitors the locking position of the locking bolt (11) and the other sensor (31) monitors the unlocking position of the locking bolt (11). The Hall effect sensors (31,32) are connected to an evaluator (45). At least the second Hall effect sensor (32) is analogically effective in order to ensure redundant position detection. This results in a proportionally larger operating range. Both Hall effect sensors (31,32) are used in order to monitor one position, especially the unlocking position (11'), of the locking bolt (11). The evaluator (45) observes the time lapse of the signals occurring on the second analog Hall effect sensor (32) as well as capturing the signals of the first Hall effect sensor (31). The common evaluation of said signals provides a redundant monitoring result.
