摘要

Microbial biomass cells wherein at least one metal cationic species is attached to the surface of said cells in an amount sufficient to render the said cells effective to bind anions thereto, and wherein at least one anionic species is also bound to the surface of said cells. Minerals such as selenium, zinc may be bound to the cells and the biomass used as a food supplement. Alternatively the cells carrying a metal cationic species may be used to remove toxic an ions e.g. selenates, arsenates, chromates from aqueous solutions.
