PURPOSE: Provided is a method for applying discount/extra rate to an electronic cash register automatically to freely apply discount/extra rate of an item by period and time by setting up and saving a certain period or time for discount/extra in advance. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: inputting and saving items, discount/extra rate by items, discount/extra period and discount/extra time and setting a flag corresponding thereto; determining whether or not an item belongs to discount/extra according to the set flag; reading discount/extra rate, discount/extra period and discount/extra time, if the item belongs to discount/extra items; determining whether or not its selling point belongs to discount/extra period and discount/extra time; calculating the price of the item if the selling point belongs to discount/extra period and discount/extra time; and registering the price to the electronic cash register.
