Filaments from a spinneret (2) are cooled by a stream of air from a perforated enclosure (3) and then enter a cylindrical section (6). An adjustable proportion of the cooling air is diverted (15) before it can enter the cylindrical section, either to the outside or to a downstream diffuser (7). An Independent claim is also included for a spinning plant with the necessary diverting passages (15) controlled by valves (13).
