The filtration device has a filter cartridge (5) within an enclosure arranged so fluid flows out through the cartridge. Within the cartridge is a rotating member (10) carrying a scraper (26) contacting the internal surface of the cartridge. The member has hoses sprinkling fluid over the internal surface as the member rotates. Jets (30-33) directed onto the outside of the cartridge sprinkle fluid onto the member. An Independent claim is included for the automatic washing of the above filtration device after the enclosure has been drained, comprising operating the member so its hoses deliver cleaning liquid to the cartridge interior and then stopping the member opposite the jets. The jets are operated one at a time to spray cleaning liquid. The blade is moved to a diametrically opposite position and all the jets are operated simultaneously. The enclosure is then drained. Preferred Features: The jets are openings in the wall of the enclosure. A detector determines the angular position of the member relative to the jets.
