[Class 103 (v)] [Also in Groups XXV, XIV, and XXI] A device stated to be applicable as a coupling for road and rail vehicles, but described as applied to fastenings for straps comprises a plate 16 with an enlarged head 17 adapted to be pushed into a socket 12 with a pair of pivoted catches 13 which are thereby rocked about their pivots 14 until the outer ends of the catches engage recesses 31. The end 19 of a slidable plate then shoots forward, under action of springs 21, between the inner ends of the catches to retain them in engagement. To prevent accidental release plate 19 carries a pair of transverse slides 24 having projections 25 which, in the release position shown, align with a recess 28 in the socket member. When the plate, with its slides, moves forward to locking position, slides 24 are moved outwards under the action of a spring 26 so that projections 25 align with and abut against projections 27 on the socket member. Release can then be effected only by first pressing the slides 24 inwards to allow rearward movement of plate 19. A modification is described using one pivoted catch. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of catch presenting a shoulder 36 to plate 19. Loops 18 are provided for permanent attachment to the ends of the strap &c., not shown. |
