Purified .alpha.1-acid glycoprotein and a process for preparing purified .al pha.1-acid glycoprotein. The process comprises providing an impure protein fraction, binding contaminants, but not .alpha.1-acid glycoprotein, to a cation-exchange medium, and binding .alpha.1-acid g lycoprotein to a anion-exchange medium, and eluting the .alpha.1-acid glycoprotein from the a nion-exchange medium.
