Tin (2) is placed in a recess in a test table (1) with a camera aligned so that its field of vision is directed towards a tangent of the periphery of the tin where the top has been crimped to the side. Light beams from the camera objective (6) and a light source (7) are directed towards the crimp area in such a way that there is no reflection from rays within the tin. An abutment axis next to the cut surface fixes the point of maximum sharpness of the camera objective on the cut surface.
