<p>The present invention provides a composition of matter comprising a substantially purified extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) from the terrestrial cyanobacterium Nostoc commune. When mixed with labile material (such as cells or cellular components) the EPS affords protection to the cells during desiccation and long-term storage. The invention thus provides an improved method for room temperature long-term storage of labile material.</p> |
