The method involves forming a reconstructed signal (i'1) approximating to the current (i1) with the aid of a recomputation algorithm. Parameters of the analytical function describing the current are determined by deriving maximum and minimum orientation points from at least two measurement windows (6,7) superimposed on the current measurement signal (i2) and each of length equal to one period of the fundamental component of the current.
