A polynucleotide comprises the nucleic acid sequence set out in SEQ ID NO: 5, 7 or 9 or a homologue or fragment thereof or a sequence complementary thereto. Polynucleotides of the invention may be used for modifying the biosynthesis of pimaricin and also in the biosynthesis of new compounds.
