The invention relates to a filter device for filtering liquids, comprising a t least one filter element which encompasses an inner chamber, delimited by a lateral wall and a base, for accommodating a filter cake, a feed line for supplying the liquid to be filtered and a drain line for draining the filter ed liquid. As the filter element comprises a pressure piston which impinges upo n the inner chamber in order to modify the volume of the filter cake, uniform, reproducible operating conditions can be created at high flow rates. In particular, it is also possible to achieve simple automation and varied use of the device in different application areas.
