ON-VEHICLE UNIT USED FOR AUTOMATIC TOLL COLLECTION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save electric power by eliminating unnecessary power consumption by providing a means which judges whether or not an IC card is inserted into a receiving machine and a means which turns on the power source of the on- vehicle unit only when it is judged that the IC card is inserted. SOLUTION: A card socket 20 being an IC card receiving machine is provided with a detection part 21 which detects whether or not an IC card 25 is inserted. When a driver rides on a vehicle and turns on the accessory switch, it is judged whether or not the IC card 25 is inserted. When the IC card 25 is inserted, it is judged whether or not the IC card is an IC card 25 for an electronic toll collection(ETC) system and only when it is judged that the card is for the ETC system, the power source 23 of the on-vehicle unit 10 is turned on. Thus, the power source of the on-vehicle unit 10 is turned on only when the IC card 25 is inserted, so that the electric power is consumed only when necessary to save the electric power.
