METHOD EXECUTED ON COMPUTER TO MAKE USER SETTABLE PRONUNCIATION OF CHARACTER STRING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realized a user interface which displays the rules of pronunciation and options by a simple method so that a non-specialist user receives a larger amount of benefits of text-voice conversion technology and voice recognition technology. SOLUTION: A user inputs or selects a word for which pronunciation is desired to be set or changed. When the user selects characters (groups) to set the pronunciation of the given character in the word or the character groups, a list is shown for ordinary words in which whole or partial pronunciation is approximately identical to the possible pronunciation of the selected characters. It is desirable, however, that the list of sample ordinary words are ordered on the basis of the frequency of correlation under a normal usage and a most ordinary word is specified as a default sample word. A subset composed of the words having higher probability of being selected is shown to the user first among the words in the list.
