PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic image pickup device capable of outputting a digital dynamic image high in quality and high in versatility capable of dealing with the change of a digital dynamic image recording format. SOLUTION: A DV compression output board 7 and an MPEG2 compression output board 8 are attachably/detachably connected to an extension connector 35 of a main board 6, a DV encoder 82 receives data from a CPU 44 in the DV compression output board 7 via a data register 73, and an IEEE1394 Link and PHY 81 outputs a DV digital compression signal generated resulting from digital compression signal that is DV-codec-processed in compliance with the IEEE1394 format obtained from data entered to the DV encoder 82. Furthermore, when the MPEG2 compression output board 8 is connected to the DV compression output board 7, the CPU 44 inputs data to the MPEG2 encoder 84 and an IEEE1394 Link and PHY 83 outputs similarly the MPEG2 compression signal.
