PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the reutilization of image data by transmitting read image data sectioned in the unit of documents to a storage side thereby comfortably retrieving and reading the image data in a file system in the case that the read image data from an original are sent to a storage means and storage is requested. SOLUTION: In this document reader 11, an image processing section 29 applies image processing such as optical character reader OCR processing and area extraction to image data that are read from an original for copying purpose or the like to extract a characteristic of the original. A control section 21 transmits the image data sectioned in the unit of documents to a server unit via a communication control section 26 when the characteristic in the original extracted by the image processing section 29 is changed and allows an information management system IMS to store and manage the image data.
