PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make position consistent with each chuck cover at the time of release by putting on the brakes on a vertically moving mechanism, upon detecting a chuck cover at the elevated position, after the elapse of the overrun time corresponding to preset overrun information, and by stopping the chuck cover at the elevated position. SOLUTION: A CD cover adjusting angle (overrun quantity information) is set, which is for coinciding the elevated positions of a chuck cover in each CD reproducing part. In the elevating operation of the CD cover, the preset adjusting angle is discriminated; when it is not zero, a reference overrun time is calculated. Then, the overrun time after the elevated position detecting switch is turned on is measured by an overrun timer, with a comparison made between this measured time and the reference overrun time. In this case, when the measured time is in agreement with the reference overrun time, the brakes are applied on the elevation driving motor to end the release operation of the CD cover.
