PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer capable of adsorbing or separating a specified substance at a good efficiency, which polymer has a mold structure for a phthalic ester compound. SOLUTION: The crosslinked polymer having a mold structure for a phthalic ester compound is exemplified by a natural crosslinked polymer such as cellulose, a synthetic crosslinked polymer such as poly(meth)acrylic ester, or more desirably, a crosslinked polymer obtained by radically polymerizing a vinyl monomer containing a polyvinyl monomer. The polyvinyl monomer used is exemplified by divinylbenzene, a polyhydric alcohol/poly(meth)acrylic acid ester, or an alkenyl alcohol/phthalic diester. The crosslinked polymer is obtained by polymerizing a mixture comprising a vinyl monomer containing 2-100 wt.% polyvinyl monomer, a phthalic ester compound, and a radical polymerization initiator at a temperature not higher than the glass transition point of the crosslinked polymer to be produced for a time not shorter than the half-life of the polymerization initiator used.
