PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large tatami mat capable of being manufactured at a low cost. SOLUTION: The large tatami mat is composed of a surface material 1 having the same size as a room and a tatami mat floor 2 as a separate body laid on the floor of the room. The surface material 1 has a tatami mat facing 3 manufactured of a synthetic resin product or a synthetic rush comprising woody fibers and a rear protective layer 4 bonded with the rear of the tatami mat facing 3. The rear protective material 4 is constituted of a flexible material comprising the single layer or laminate of a natural or synthetic rubber and a synthetic resin material or felt or the composite foam of calcium carbonate and polyethylene, which is not inconvenient for rounding and carrying the surface material 1 as a carpet and has proper thickness of approximately 2-5 mm. A resin foam and a resin board or a woody board which have been known may be contained as main bodies as the tatami mat floor 2.
