PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permeable type breakwater allowing waves with short wavelength to be transmitted and interrupting only waves with long wavelength. SOLUTION: A floating body 3 is stored vertically movably in a storage space 4 in a bank body 2, an incident wave inlet part 5 communicating with the storage space 4 is formed at the front end part of the bank body 2, and a transmitted wave outlet part 6 communicating with the storage space 4 and opened and closed by the vertical movement of the floating body 3 is formed at the rear end part of the bank body 2. When the wavelength of an incident wave 19 from the incident wave inlet part 5 is shorter than a specified wavelength, the amplitude A of the vertical movement of the floating body 3 becomes smaller than the amplitude B of the incident wave 19 to open the transmitted wave outlet part 6. When the wavelength of the incident wave 19 is longer than a specified wavelength, the amplitude A of the vertical movement of the floating body 3 becomes approximately equal to the amplitude B of the incident wave 19 to close the transmitted wave outlet part 6 by the floating body 3.
