PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize photographic characteristics when photosensitive materials for photographing with emulsions having different silver halide compositions are mixedly processed by varying the concentration of a replenisher for development and the amount of the replenisher replenished per unit processing area. SOLUTION: A processing area of a high silver chloride photosensitive material 16 is calculated by an operating means 31 from the width of the photosensitive material 16 sensed with a sensor 26 and the amount of the photosensitive material 16 conveyed in a control means 32 and the processing area is cumulatively stored in a memory 28. The controlling means 32 reads information on diluting water 14 for obtaining the appropriate concentration and amount of a replenisher for development from the memory 28 in accordance with the processing area of the photosensitive material 16, that is with processing, and drives a pump 22. The control of variation of the concentration and amount of the replenisher is carried out by varying the amount of diluting water 14 replenished when a thick replenisher 4 and the diluting water are replenished to developing tank 2. In accordance with the processing area of two photosensitive materials, the amount of diluting water 14 fed is varied to vary the concentration of the replenisher solution and the amount of the replenisher replenished per unit processing area.
