PURPOSE: A rectangular battery is provided to reduce the expansion of a jelly roll by completely bending electrode plates at a bending portion. CONSTITUTION: A rectangular battery comprises an electrode assembly. The electrode assembly includes an anode plate(111) coated with an anode active material and a cathode plate(113) is coated with a cathode active material. A separator is interposed between the anode plate(111) and the cathode plate(113). The anode plate(111) is insulated from the cathode(113) by a separator. The electrode plate assembly is encased in a rectangular case. The first non-coating portion, in which the anode active material or the cathode active material is not coated, is formed at both end sides of the anode plate(111) and the cathode plate(113). At least one second non-coating portion(111d,113d) is formed between the first non-coating portion.
