PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly lessen the number of parts constituting a lightning arrester by a method wherein electrodes are respectively provided on both end surfaces of a zinc oxide element formed in a columnar shape via metallikon electrodes. SOLUTION: Metallikon electrodes 15 are formed respectively on both end surfaces of a zinc oxide element 14, which has large diameter parts 14a on both ends thereof and is formed in almost a columnar form. Electrode covers 17 are mounted respectively on the electrodes 15 via wave washers 16. The outer peripheral parts of the covers 17 are subjected to draw processing on the outer peripheral surfaces of the large diameter parts 14a and are made to spinning-seal. Electrodes 18 formed by with each male screw are respectively made to secure at the positions of the axial centers of the respective electrodes covers 17. As the electrodes 18, nuts can be used instead of the male screws. The outer peripheral surface of the element 14 is covered with a silicon polymer insulator which is used as an insulator skin. A plurality of ribs are formed on this insulator. Both ends of the insulator are made to be held between the covers 17 and the large diameter parts 14a.
