SAMPLE CLEANUP PROCESS REMOVING COELUTING ENANTIOMERS IN THE CHROMATOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF COMPLEX ORGANIC MIXTURES

Chromatography is a well-known technique for separating materials, and it is often used in the separation of organic stereoisomers. Unfortunately, the complex mixtures in real life materials such as organic mixtures like fruit juices or wines can contain several compounds that in conventional chromatographic analysis provide peaks and troughs that overlap, so making it very difficult to determine with any degree of confidence how much of what is contained in the mixture. The invention provides a simple chromatographic enantiomeric determination technique in which the mixture is first subjected to an ion exchange procedure whereby the interfering material is removed (and in the particular case where the material to be removed is an amino acid such as aspartic acid, and thus exhibits anionic properties, the ion exchange is effected using a cation exchange resin).
