The present invention provides a golf ball (5) having a plurality of polygon al configurations (10, 12, 14) around the outer surface of a spherical golf bal l for locating dimples on the golf ball (5). The polygonal configurations of this invention include a combination of regular pentagons (10), squares (12) , and triangles (14) to cover the outer surface. The preferred golf ball (5) h as its outer surface divided into twelve pentagons, thirty squares and twenty triangles. These polygonal configurations can be further divided by fifteen parting lines along great circle paths to define smaller triangles and squar es for locating respective dimples. Dimples (60, 61, 62) are preferably circula r in shape but can have a non-circular shape within the scope of this inventio n. An equatorial great circle path is provided to form a mold line for forming a cover of the golf ball in two parts.
