PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling apparatus which enables circulation of a secondary refrigerant and facilitation of startup even in a low-temperature environment. SOLUTION: In a cooling apparatus wherein a secondary refrigerant is circulated through a body 1 to be cooled, so as to cool it, a bypass piping 41 which can be opened and closed is provided for a secondary refrigerant circulating passage 3, in parallel with the body, while a heater 43 for heating the secondary refrigerant passing through this bypass piping 41 is provided. During the time when an ambient temperature or a refrigerant temperature is a prescribed one or below on the occasion of startup of the cooling apparatus, the bypass piping 41 is put in continuity and the secondary refrigerant is circulated therethrough, while the secondary refrigerant is heated by the heater 43. According to this constitution, the cooling apparatus can be started up easily even in a low-temperature environment. This apparatus is suitable for cooling an antenna part of a radar, or the like, which is moved and used in the temperature environment of severe cold.
